ABOUT US

Barbara A. Smith Ph.D. is the founder and director of Creative Connections in Education. She is a Developmental Psychologist who has served as a dedicated educator at the Johns Hopkins University for the past 16 years. She served as the Associate Chair of the Master’s Program in Developmental Psychology at Johns Hopkins from 1998-2004.

  Dr. Smith’s teaching experience includes Human Development: A Life Span Approach, Infancy and Childhood, Adolescence to Death, Social Development, Adolescence and Young Adulthood, Middle and Late Adulthood, Psychology of Women, Psychology of Sex and Gender, Sex, Gender and Education, Personality, and Motivation. Additionally, she has taken students to Costa Rica to study childhood social development, within the context of a service learning experience with the Habitat for Humanity organization.

  In addition to teaching and administration, Dr. Smith has published extensively on the socioemotional development of human infants. Funding was provided by the National Institute of Mental Health, National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, and the March of Dimes Birth Defects Foundation. Dr. Smith has also studied the factors influencing the use of healthcare systems in economically impoverished areas of Costa Rica. That work was supported by the Ford Foundation and the Fulbright Foundation.

Dr. Smith has served as a Project Director for an infant study on the fetal antecedents of temperament, an Advisory Board Member to the Annual Editions: Human Development series from 1998 to the present, and has served as an a Faculty Advisor for the 1994 Milton S. Eisenhower Symposium, Without a voice: The Dilemma of growing up in America, a year-long series of talks by experts in the field.

Workshops organized and conducted by Dr. Smith include, Gender in the Workplace, Family Issues in the Workplace, Intergenerational Caretaking, and Health and Education Workshops for Expectant Parents (in Spanish). She also has provided consulting for organizations such as the National Cancer Institute and the Philadelphia Children’s Hospital, as well as for a private Baltimore school.

Anne M. Fein, M.A.

  Anne M. Fein, M.A. is an Associate Professor at Landmark College in Putney, Vermont. She has been educating students with learning disabilities and ADHD for the past 14 years. During her time at Landmark College, she has taught in the Communications, Reading, and Study Skills Departments, as well as tutored and advised students. Additionally, she was involved in the established and managed the Office of Assistive Technology Services. Her responsibilities included overseeing the initiation of the Digital Text Library which digitizes course textbooks for use with text-to-speech software, developing a cohort model of professional development for faculty, and assistive technology training for students. She has presented her work at national and international conferences across the United States over the past 3 years. Ms. Fein’s current focus is educational technology. In particular, she is working on researching and reframing the learning process through the implementation of universal design principles and instructional technology.

Stephanie Stone Ph.D.

  Dr. Stone did her graduate and post doctoral studies in Behavioral Medicine at the University of Maryland and the National Institute on Aging. Her research focused on how personality predicts health related behaviors that in turn predict adult-onset diseases. At the Johns Hopkins Hospital Department of Psychiatry, she extended her research into the cognitive disorders of aging, including dementia.

 Throughout her career, Dr. Stone has taught at both the graduate and undergraduate level. Courses she has taught include Personality, Psychology of Emotions, Neuropsychology, Adult Development, Research Methods, Assessment, and Scientific Writing.

Lisa Smith

Lisa is our marketing development & promotional director. She has also contributed to the CCE website in both design and content. She has been with CCE from it's inception.

She will graduate from McGill University in Montreal, Quebec, Canada with her Bachelor of Arts Degree. Her major is in Political Science Honors with a minor in Psychology.
